Jul 25, 2015 - When I try to record ARK with fraps nothing shows up in the movies folders in fraps and when I star ARK it says 'Fraps has been known to crash D3D11. Please use Microsoft Expression Encoder instead of capturing '. Whenever I launch PUBG with Fraps it comes up with this message: 'Fraps has been known to crash d3d11 please use Microsoft Expression.

Hi, I have been using FRAPS and using the Print Screen button to take screenshots in game. I have had no issues till 1.07 and now every time I try to take a screenshot the image freezes the screen and I have to shut the game down via the Task Manager. Even doing this the games sound continues to play even after ending the task 'Witcher 3: Wild Hunt' Not Responding in the Task Manager.
Anyone else have this problem, anyone have a solution??

game freezes? i suppose you could try to see if fraps has a witcher 3 compatibility update or ask on cd projekt red forums

The game won't freeze for me but it will get a lag spike once i hit print screen. Someone in somethread suggested that CDPR might implement a screenshot feature and maybe thats bugged. Anyways I just put the screenshot key of Fraps onto another key and have no problems with that.
Concerning Fraps updates: Fraps seems to be dead, there are many games which have problems with Fraps and Beepa never supported Win8 (you cannot record your desktop anymore). No updates since two and a half years and a list of well documented bugs exists..Yep pretty dead..

I also use Fraps and I have no problems. Works perfect for me.

kuyaho: I also use Fraps and I have no problems. Works perfect for me. Will be logging in soon and will change the key from Screen Shot to the default F12 if it's not used in game already and see if it stops the issue.

Both AMD and NVidia Drivers include now software for screen capturing: Raptr is AMD and NVidia Experience.
A good free program is Loilo Game Recorder and there are some other free tools. BUT .. I've tried all of these and I always returned to fraps. Fraps capture everything for me and it's damn easy with no issues until now. All the other tools have some issues or games they cannot capture. It's very annoying.
Try them. Maybe you like one of them. ;-)

Also waiting on a response from the forum topic daaceking provided as it may just be a problem with certain game files. I also have GeForce Experience so wlil have a look at that as well

Just an update, FRAPS seems to hate in Witcher 3 if you try and take 2 pics quickly. I rarely have the problem with one shot but 2 nearly always crashes the game????

Here is an update about the development of fraps. I've contacted the support. This is the answer:
'Thanks for your message and kind words. An updated version of Fraps including Windows 10 & DirectX 12 support is currently in development. Unfortunately I can't give you a release date but we hope to make it available as soon as possible. I apologise for the inconvenience in the meantime.
Please be aware that the current Fraps 3.5.99 release should still work ok in Windows 10 with games that are supported. This includes games using DirectX 11 (or earlier) and OpenGL.'
As I said I have no problems with fraps in witcher 3.

Next time it will freeze the screen for a couple of seconds. Take two in succession completely freeezes. Haven't had a esponse from the other thread unfortunately. Wonder what else could be causing it, had no problems with any other games such as AC4, 5 and DAI!!!

Well, I googled a bit and there are several people with the same issue, but they all use different screen capture software: Steam, Windows Printscreen and so on. Maybe it's not really a fraps issue?! It may depend on your settings or other software. Try to close all programs while running the game. Anti-Virus-Software, E-Mail-Client and you should close all other screen capturing software like RIVA Tuner if you have it running.

And in the fraps-settings try another image format. BMP or PNG or TGA, whatever. You can choose it there. Maybe it helps.
I don't know what else you can do. If it will still not run in fraps I guess you have tot try another software for witcher 3 screen capturing. ;-)

Got a strange errors with D3D11. It's alwas print 'Unknown error' in output console. After some investigations I found that error caused on this line: https://github.com/Kode/Kore/blob/24bd154ed65ca3eb35f07eb8a53117b07903f080/Backends/Direct3D11/Sources/Kore/ProgramImpl.cpp#L240 In debug mode I got different errors on different shaders: First type of errors:
D3D11 ERROR: ID3D11Device::CreateInputLayout: Encoded Signature size doesn't match specified size. [ STATE_CREATION ERROR #161: CREATEINPUTLAYOUT_UNPARSEABLEINPUTSIGNATURE] Second type of errors:
D3D11 ERROR: ID3D11Device::CreateInputLayout: Element[3] and Element[2] have the same Semantic (TEXCOORD 0). All Semantics in the Input Layout must be unique. This error is only printed on the first occurence detected. [ STATE_CREATION ERROR #160: CREATEINPUTLAYOUT_DUPLICATESEMANTIC] But everything works fine with OpenGL. |

I fixed that error:
D3D11 ERROR: ID3D11Device::CreateInputLayout: Element[3] and Element[2] have the same Semantic (TEXCOORD 0). All Semantics in the Input Layout must be unique. This error is only printed on the first occurence detected. [ STATE_CREATION ERROR #160: CREATEINPUTLAYOUT_DUPLICATESEMANTIC] By replacing COLOR with SV_Target here: https://github.com/Kode/SPIRV-Cross/blob/64f77f45bc84033a7cbb78549d99db1422042c99/spirv_hlsl.cpp#L177 But thats will not work for D3D9, I guess. |

I fixed something and it now runs but doesn't look much like in OpenGL. Problem is/was about unused attributes. Maybe more problems, that sample is huge.. |

Thanks, Robert, for all your hard work. I can confirm that it runs now, but result is very strange :D Here is how it looks like in my case: Sorry for the huge sample, please, the problem became on complex shaders only so it needs normal maps and all that weird stuff. Also, I tried to update Kore in Kha and still got this with Kha project (with crash): So looks like I should create more complex sample with Kha :) |

About: D3D11 ERROR: ID3D11Device::CreateInputLayout: Encoded Signature size doesn't match specified size.
I found some interesting thing. With small meshes D3D works correctly. But with big meshes (like Sponza) it cause issue. But both mehses works fine with GL. |

Update. Can't reproduce ' Encoded Signature' error again.. But here is small sample that includes issue with rendering of 3D models. Btw, looks like D3D9 works fine and does not contain those errors. But there is no option to use D3D9 if you using MRT in your code or if you building to the Windows Universal app, so D3D11 is still important :) |

Didn't fix your rendering yet but the actual 'Encoded Signature..' bug is fixed (Haxe/hxcpp could collect and reuse the vertex shader memory in D3D11 so it was kind of a random incident). |
