- There have been a few silly remarks in this thread, which I will ignore, because there is no argument here: If you don't create sims with curly hair textures, you don't mind the lack of them. For my playstyle, more curly/afro-textured hairstyles are needed. Not because I want to create myself, but because natural hairstyles are beautiful when the hair is healthy and most people with an African heritage have hair that is of a different texture than straight hair. I would like society in general to be more accepting of afro-textured hair - in some areas it is unthinkable to go to work in an office wearing a natural hairstyle - and The Sims can be a part of that. They should start with converting the curly toddler hairstyle for all ages. It is a very good representation of a natural, curly hairstyle. People with curly hair textures should not feel the need to straighten their hair or wear weaves - chemical treatments are toxic and weaves are ridiculously expensive.
Of course more hairstyles are always welcome in any texture, but that category is lacking the most, compared to real life.
To anyone who does not understand my argument regarding acceptance of certain hair textures in society, and actually is interested in this subject, I strongly recommend watching the movie 'Good Hair'. It is a very entertaining, yet informative documentary. If I just posted an outfit you like, I have good news - there is more where that came from!

we all try ... - One of my biggest complaints for a long time has been lack of black hairstyles, specifically. Sims 4 has been better at this, but they definitely need to be putting out more. I remember sims 3 had the UGLIEST black braid hair and was sore that in the 70s80s90s pack there was no bouncy loose afro. I love those.
But i think kids in particular need more variety. Need more puff balls. Also @lovlyb. You had some greaaaat suggestions. Those are so cute ;0;
Obviously there is a serious need of more hairstyles, but non-white sim styles need it a lot more in terms of texture variety. I've managed to download quite a bit of good non-white cc but a lot of times its not maxis matched, you gotta jumo through 5 hoops of fire to download it, or the colors are off and any future kids end up inheriting the wrong colors.
Totally agree, and you so right about cc hoops. - There have been a few silly remarks in this thread, which I will ignore, because there is no argument here: If you don't create sims with curly hair textures, you don't mind the lack of them. I watch that movie its really good and I agree. - YAAAS!! But i agree, they need more afros, braids, poofs etc for use Africans. I do have cc for it (its really nice) but i think we need more real looking afros then those one clown ones they already have, like beyonce style. and more braids, not for just African Americans but for all styles in general. Also for kids and toddlers
- As a white man I do not feel the need for this and think it would be a waste of dev time.
... ok0 - edited February 2017We need more selection with hair. It don't matter if you're a pastel or tube of oil paint..
- I think they tried to with City Living, but it really wasn't enough. The Sims Community is also really lacking in CC creators that are willing to make ethnic hairs... It's sad, but true. I just wish the Sims Team will soon focus more on their ethnic players and maybe, somewhere down the line, add a stuff pack or game pack for more Afro/Asiacentric hairs... But, I really doubt that day will happen
- I think you make good points here
However, I also think they have them since they are typical black women hairstyles. I have a friend who always wears her hair in those space buns, and another that has braids - it's really up to which hairstyles you use. White women can have braids. Black women can have straight hair. While I think they should add more textured hair, I don't think you can call a certain hair black without being slightly stereotypical
Bantu knots not space buns - As it is, I have to use cc hair for some of my sims because hair styles are lacking, there are wonderful creators on Tumblr btw. I would love to see more variety in hair for the game including glorious curls off all types, not everyone has straight hair.
- How about also barrettes and ballies for kids hair?
- Just as an update to my post above, I caved and added another piece of CC to my game (now at 11, all hair and make-up). Of course an awesome modder had already taken care of the 'issue' and converted the toddler hair, pretty much after release of toddlers. It looks great on adults as well.If I just posted an outfit you like, I have good news - there is more where that came from!

we all try ... - @Bookwormy thank you for this post! I wholeheartedly agree and have been thinking this for quite some time. Sure, they've come a long way with this since the Sims 1-3, but it's still not enough.
As an example to anyone who's skeptical:
I own every game pack and expansion pack except for Vampires. I also own the Vintage Glamour stuff pack.
I counted 106 hairstyles for women available in my game.
Of the 106, I counted only 9 that have a curl pattern beyond a type 2c (wavy hair). The rest are straight to wavy. If I exclude the close cut / super short hair, this number drops to only 7 'curly' hairstyles. This is objectively unrepresentative of reality.
When you have a big family of Black sims and every 3rd woman has the same exact hairstyle... It gets annoying, to say the least.
Diversity is important. Representation is important. Feeling like a game you've probably spent hundreds of dollars on over the years is paying attention to ALL their customer bases is important. This should be something anyone of any race understands.5 - edited April 2017Just as an update to my post above, I caved and added another piece of CC to my game (now at 11, all hair and make-up). Yes that really looks good on adults. Hopefully maxis will add it for teens and up in an update.0 - @catloverplayer Actually it looks like they will add something - at least very similar - in the new GP. Check the quarterly trailer at second 0:04 the lady in the green top seems to be wearing a variation of this hairstyle. If I just posted an outfit you like, I have good news - there is more where that came from!

we all try ... - edited April 2017Everything has always catered to white people.
Well 'white people' are the majority in most of Europe and the US, where most Sims players live. I'm saying 'most' here, not 'all'. So from a business perspective it does make sense. However, I do agree that we need a lot more curly hairstyles ( the 'k' word seems to be censored around here ).
In general, while I think that there are some pretty great options in the game already, there aren't nearly enough for a game that's supposed to mimic life and that advertises itself with being able to both accurately and inaccurately recreate yourself and people you know. It's lacking in both clothing and hairstyles, but especially in hairstyles since most of the time they make up an even bigger part of how we perceive a person than what said person wears.
I was actually surprised we didn't get more curly hair with City Living as one of the 3 main influences for that pack were Morocco as well as other parts of Africa.
And well some people definitely qualify for the oppression olympics around here, but then there's also comments like Loudon's which make me question my ability to read because I had to look at that one twice. Seriously ?0 - Just as an update to my post above, I caved and added another piece of CC to my game (now at 11, all hair and make-up). Looks great, doesn't it ? There was a similar hairstyle for adults shown in the family GP teaser. I personally would like that one even more since most toddler hair doesn't quite have the mesh quality of kids/teens/older unless it's a cc conversion.0 - I had made a Sim some time ago that was based upon (my humble foreigners interpretation of) African genetics.
At the time there was no other styles I could use except straight or wavy hairs. But here she is anyway......

Yes it does look similar. I want to see it from the front though.0 - we defiantly need more ethnic hairstyles for our sims, it's so annoying having to download cc for my sims because the game lacks so many hair options0

Oh my gosh, what a beautiful Sim! That toddler hair conversion does look really good. I would ask you for the CC link but it looks like we're getting a similar hair in the Family pack.
We really do need more Afro-textured hairstyles! As @onehummingbird said, when you have a family of black or interracial Sims it gets really boring having to use the same few hairs over and over again. Especially if you like to give your Sims different hairstyles for different outfits or adjust their haircut throughout their lives. The more, the merrier! And some of the curly hairstyles would also work for non-black Sims, since curly hair in general is really lacking in this game!My ideas for how to improve the Sims 4

@Yoko2112 interesting point... But I think the same arguments were made years back about gender representation in gaming. Women game less than men, so why increase representation? The smart game dev companies recognized early on that there's a growing market trend to tap into, and it made sense to invest in more content that catered to women - even before those numbers were represented in who was playing at the time.
The same holds true for racial diversity in games. A 2015 US Census predicted that the white population will be a minority in 30 years. So yeah, I believe it actually does make sense from a business perspective.
Yes! How did we get all these great Moroccan-inspired build mode items but hardly any variation in hair?I was actually surprised we didn't get more curly hair with City Living as one of the 3 main influences for that pack were Morocco as well as other parts of Africa.2- I would completely welcome more hair options for black sims. Aside from the diverse range of people who play this game globally, the game also allows us to make a variety of sims. I don't literally make sims in the image of myself. (That actually creeps me out in terms of my own gameplay though I don't blame others for doing it; I've created a sim who is similar to me but that's as close as I can go and that person is just another sim in my rotation, not specifically me).
I have a large number of households and I edit townies. Yes, I want more options for the black sims in my game. I'd also love to see a safari/Africa-themed GP. I'm thinking of somewhere like South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya or Tanzania, someplace with a savanna. It would be a cool way of building on Outdoor Retreat. (Yes, it would be cool for sims to live or travel there but it seems like a good fit for a vacation destination, especially as something that hasn't really been done before).
Yes, sure, adding more hairstyles for everyone is great, but the black sims really do need more options. Some of the styles can work across different ethnicities, but the black sims need more options. I do play a melting pot or cosmopolitan game and it is really obvious when you do that. I'd probably add more black sims into my game if there were more styles for them.0
