If you can’t even see your closest neighbor when you walk out on your front porch, then you’re probably used to limited internet service options. And if all you’ve ever had in the past is dial-up or satellite internet, then Frontier’s high(er)-speed plans could be a nice upgrade.

Frontier has made a name for itself by venturing into rural areas other internet providers haven’t touched. And Frontier has some good things going for it—namely, no data caps and a two-year price-lock guarantee. Its fiber plans are particularly impressive, but if you live in the boonies, then you’ll probably see only broadband options.

Frontier has approximately one million plans on offer. Okay, it’s actually 13, but close enough.

If Frontier is available in your area, then in reality, you’ll have only a handful of these plans to choose from. But overall, Frontier does have a super wide range of speeds.

Frontier’s broadband plans are much more widely available than its fiber plans. Unfortunately, that means you’ll see Frontier’s highest speed plans in only a select few areas (and they won’t be rural). You’re not going to find be able to get a fiber plan for your summer home in the country or for your mountain cabin.

If you are lucky enough to live somewhere that Frontier’s fiber plans are available, then we definitely recommend getting one. You can get some super-fast speeds for an okay price.

The fastest plan, Simply FiOS 1 Gbps, is expensive and it wouldn’t be our first choice for a gigabit plan. But if you want the fastest internet possible, then 1 Gbps will definitely do the trick.

A big selling point for Frontier is that it doesn’t put any data caps on its plans. That’s right: zero caps.

Frontier doesn’t even do that sneaky thing some internet providers do where their data is “technically” unlimited, but there are actually soft data caps—after which your speed slows down to a slow crawl. (We’re looking at you, satellite internet providers.)

A lot of providers do give you really big data caps. For example, Xfinity gives you 1 TB, which is enough data for even the biggest streaming addicts out there. But still, it’s nice to never have to worry about data limits or throttled speeds.

Who it’s best for: Single internet users or people in small households that don’t stream a lot of HD videos or play a lot of online games.

Why we picked it: 25 Mbps is enough speed to keep one or two people happy while watching Netflix, skimming social media, and sending emails. Plus, it won’t break the bank.

Who it’s best for: Families that use a lot of data for videos, gaming, uploading, or all three.

Why we picked it: This plan gives you a killer combo of high speeds for a low price. Its fast fiber connection will keep your family happy—and your bank account too. Just make sure it’s available in your area.

Most ISPs require a 1- or 2-year contract for internet service—but not Frontier. You don’t have to sign a contract with Frontier, which means you can cancel anytime without paying those hefty early termination fees.

Our favorite part is that Frontier also offers a two-year price lock. So your price stays the same for two years even without the legal rigamarole.

If you don’t want to buy your own modem or router, you can lease one from Frontier. We’ve heard mixed reviews or Frontier’s equipment, though, so it’s not a bad idea to buy your own—if you don’t mind the up-front cost.

No ISP gets amazing marks for customer service, but even among the bad, Frontier is almost the worst. Bitter blood sub indo. The ACSI gives Frontier’s customer service a gutter-low score of 54¹, which makes it the second-to-last ranked provider on the list above Mediacom.

Like with most ISPs, we recommend using online chat instead of phone calls. But watch out—Frontier’s live chat feature can be a little unreliable. It’s not available 24/7 and it can have some long wait times that make you wish you’d just called.

Frontier has brought high-speed internet to some rural places that didn’t have it before, which is nice for the country dwellers out there. We also like that Frontier has a super wide range of speed options, and some lucky city folk can even get fiber.

That said, just because Frontier has high-speed plans in some places doesn’t necessarily mean you can get one in your location. Plus, Frontier needs to seriously work on its customer service scores.
